10. Can I access UConn Health Library resources from UConn Health
affiliated hospitals?
A proxy account allows access to the Library Electronic Resources normally restricted by UConn Health IP, e.g., Electronic Journals, Electronic Textbooks, and Databases from off-campus sites and from the UCHC-Guest WiFi when on campus.
2. Who is eligible for a proxy account?
Unfortunately, our licensing agreements with publishers prevent us from making remote access to our online resources available to other library patrons even if you have a Library barcode. We would be held liable for licensing violations if we were to expand remote access beyond these very strict guidelines. Check with our Access Services department if you have any question about eligibility at (860) 679-3808.
3. How do I obtain a proxy account?
If you are a UConn Health faculty member, staff or student with a network logon, you are already registered. Use your network logon as your proxy username/password.
If you meet the eligibility requirements but do not have a UConn Health network logon, come to the Library Information Desk or use the appropriate online form to get a library barcode. If you've already registered with the library, you should have a barcode. Make sure your library registration is up to date. The proxy server login will be your barcode number (no spaces) and your last name. Please allow at least three business days to set up your account. Check with our Access Services Department if you have any questions at (860) 679-3808. More details.
4. Do I need to configure my browser?
No.
5. What browsers are supported?
EZProxy is browser independent, i.e., any browser including browsers on mobile devices should work with EZproxy.
6. Do I have to log in every time I want to access resources?
Sessions will last for approximately two hours and then you will be asked to log in again. If you exit your browser or shutdown your computer at any time you will be asked to log in again.
7. I click on a Library resource but the proxy box doesn't appear.
The resource must be accessed from the Library's home page http://library.uchc.edu/ to generate the proxy login page and it must be one that is restricted by IP. Not all resources on the Library's home page are restricted.
8. What do I do if I get a message saying that my proxy login was invalid or incorrect?
If you use a UConn Health network logon to access proxy -
- This is the same username/password used to access email or log into a computer on the UConn Health network..
- Try to access another Health Center resource such as email at https://itowa.uchc.edu to test the username/password.
- If you copy and paste your username/password from a document, be sure to only select the characters that comprise your username/password. Spaces before or after the characters are read as a part of your username/password and will cause it to be invalid.
- If you are having issues with your username/password, please contact the IT Helpdesk (860) 679-4400.
- Note: UConn Health students with laptops - If you have changed your password wirelessly from an off-campus site, you will need to plug into the UConn Health network with an Ethernet cable so that the network receives your new password. When changing passwords, it is best to do it on-campus with a wired connection.
If you use a barcode to access proxy -
- The proxy server login is your library barcode number without spaces and your last name.
- If you just registered for the proxy account, please allow at least three business days to activate your account.
- Make sure your library registration is up to date and you are using your current barcode.
- Confirm the spelling of your last name, including any spaces, hyphens, etc.
- If you copy and paste your username/password from a document, be sure to only select the characters that comprise your username/password. Spaces before or after the characters are read as a part of your username/password and will cause it to be invalid.
- Please check with our Access Services Department at (860) 679-3808 for further information.
9. Can I create bookmarks that will utilize proxy to access IP restricted resources?
Yes. To create a bookmark instead of accessing a resource through the Library website, the proxy prefix must be added to the resource's URL. The prefix that triggers the proxy logon prompt is: http://online.uchc.edu/login?url=
For instance, the URL for PubMed is: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?holding=uchclib. Add the proxy prefix to this URL and the result would be:
http://online.uchc.edu/login?url=http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?holding=uchclib
10. Can I access UConn Health Library resources from UConn Health affiliated hospitals?
Yes. You should be able to access UConn Health Library resources from UConn Health affiliated hospitals.
